Board density and application
Rockwool is available in different densities, thicknesses and facings. Low-density rolls, semi-rigid boards and high-density boards serve different cavity, ceiling, acoustic, roof and industrial applications. Density alone should not be used as the only selection criterion.
Acoustic use
Rockwool can absorb sound within wall and ceiling cavities and can form the core of fabric acoustic panels. Sound isolation still depends on board layers, framing, airtightness, decoupling and flanking-path control.
Fire-conscious assemblies
Stone wool is commonly selected in fire-conscious systems, but the required rating belongs to the complete tested assembly. Boards, studs, fasteners, joints, penetrations and supporting construction must follow approved details.
Handling and installation
Confirm dimensions, compression, support, facing direction, protective equipment, moisture protection and edge continuity. Gaps and poorly fitted pieces reduce the intended thermal and acoustic performance.
